#chess Tournaments next week- 7/12- 13/12

A short summary of tournaments coming up next week:

8th-15th December is the London Chess Classic, held at the Olympia Conference Centre, Kensington, W14 8UX. Simply put this is the biggest chess event in England for a long time. The events scheduled for this week are as follows:

7th is the press conference, drawing of lots, and a simultaneous display starting at 11.30

8th-15th is The Classic, featuring 4 of England's top players alongside 4 of the top player's from across the globe. Rounds 1, 2, and 3, start at 14.30. There's then a rest- day on the 11th, before rounds 4, 5, and 6 all starting at 14.30 on consecutive days. Finally round 7 starts at 12.00. After the final round will be the closing ceremony and a charity simultaneous.

8th-15th is the FIDE rated open. Rounds 1, 2, and 3, will all start at 14.30. Rounds 4 & 5 will both be played on 11th, starting at 10.00. Rounds 6, 7 and 8 will all start at 14.30, and round 9 will start at 11.00.

8th-15th will also feature a Womens Invitational event, featuring 3 of England's top female players, alongside 7 other highly- rated female players from a variety of countries in an all-play- all event. This event runs to the same schedule as the FIDE Rated Open.

8th-10th and 14th-15th there will be free school coaching, starting at 10.30 each day.

8th-14th is a Foyer Blitz event, from 19.00-21.30 each evening.

8th starting at 20.00 there is a discussion on the subject: Chess Metaphors - How Does Chess Influence Artificial Intelligence?

12th- 13th is the Weekend Classic. With 3 rounds starting at 10.00 on 12th 2 rounds starting 11.00 on 13th.

12th there is the English Junior Rapid Chess Championship, starting at 11.00.

12th Graham Burgess will be signing copies of his new, expanded Mammoth Book of Chess in the Bookstall at 13.00

13th is the Classic Rapidplay, starting at 10.30.

13th & 14th Viktor Korchnoi will be performing 2 30- board simutaneous displays, starting at 19.00. NOTE: the tickets for both displays have all now been sold.

12-13th December is the 4th Norwick Park Congress, held at the University of Westminster Harrow Campus, Northwick Park, Harrow, HA1 3TP. Running alongside this is the London Junior Chess Championships U10 & U14 finals. 12th December is the Manchester Junior Chess Congress, held at Beaver Road School, Didsbury, Manchester. I couldn't find much further information on the recommended website: http://manchesterchessfederation.co.uk/, although if I've missed it feel free to let me know and I'll update this.

Here is a list of FIDE registered tournaments in England. There will be a separate entry for each section of each event (e.g. Golders Green Rapidplay = 4 sections, 4 registrations). If you see any of mine missing, do let me know! 

Scroll down to the bottom to access the archive of events. 

Only games where at least one of the players has a published standard FIDE rating will be rated, and included in the rating calculations of the unrated player. Where both players are rated, the game will affect both players and will be included in the calculations for both players.
