Canterbury, 25 July – 7th August, 2010 (Beginners welcome, afternoon commentary is free…)

 

Championship of the British Isles at Kent University gets into full swing today. Top seeded Mickey Adams – British Champion in 1989 and 1997 (shared) - leads out field including Grandmasters Gordon, Conquest, Williams, Wells, Arkell, Summerscale; Lady GM Jovanka Houska.

Events for all players.

Play – spectate, entry is free - in the Sports Complex Centre. Weekend swisses Open/ U-150/ U-125.

2nd Sunday Rapidplay.

Second week events include U-160 and U-120 five rounders – one game a day – plus junior championships U-14/ U-12/ U-10/ U-9/ U-8.

L@@k accommodation at the site itself still available.

Prize Giving on Saturday 7 August.

Simpson's in the Strand. £200 gala dinner sponsored by Darwin Strategic. Korchnoi, Adams, McShane, Short, Kasparov and  FIDE President presumptive - Karpov. CJ – the ECF President – (part) under written. Staunton Society bash. Half rake-off to Karpov's bid to be FIDE President. Signings, speeches, consultation matches, best tux and dickie-bow. Event organiser: Raymond Keene, OBE.

Only games where at least one of the players has a published standard FIDE rating will be rated, and included in the rating calculations of the unrated player. Where both players are rated, the game will affect both players and will be included in the calculations for both players.
