The Bronowski Trophy - a London chess league you may not have heard about!

In the early 1960s, Dr Jacob Bronowski presented a trophy – a silver knight mounted on a plinth – for annual competition by the champion teams of the principal central London business house leagues: Banks, Civil Service, Commercial and Insurance. The first competition was won by Inland Revenue in 1964 and the trophy has been competed for annually ever since.

The Bronowski competition is a mini-chess league contested by representative teams from the London Banks Chess League, the London Commercial Chess League, the Insurance Chess Club and the Central London Legal Chess League. It has been running since 1964, and matches are currently played over 12 boards.
If you have any present or past connection to Insurance and are interested in playing in the Bronowski + joining the Insurance Chess Club,  please contact Anthony Kent, or for the Legal Team contact Steven Coles,

Best wishes

Here is a list of FIDE registered tournaments in England. There will be a separate entry for each section of each event (e.g. Golders Green Rapidplay = 4 sections, 4 registrations). If you see any of mine missing, do let me know!

Scroll down to the bottom to access the archive of events.

Only games where at least one of the players has a published standard FIDE rating will be rated, and included in the rating calculations of the unrated player. Where both players are rated, the game will affect both players and will be included in the calculations for both players.
