June is a hot month... for great chess tournaments!

Currently I am lucky enough to be in Puglia, Southern Italy running the lovely Salento tournament - http://www.2opensalento2013.it/ and you can see the photos here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/adamraoof/sets/72157633691832880/  There are several UK based players taking part in the two sections and live games on the internet that you can follow.  If you are interested in joining us then come and play next year, or check out other www.chesspro.it events!

When I return from Italy it's going to be busy - I have some big events coming up, and I hope you will be able to play in some.

Wednesday 5th June - Highgate Blitz (http://www.highgatechess.blogspot.co.uk/) is a six round ten minutes per player tournament at the very hospitable Corks Cafe in Swains Lane N6, £10 to enter and that includes food or drinks. We currently get about 14 players, but the weather is improving and we can now (almost) play outside in their garden!

Thursday 6th June - Hendon Blitzhttp://www.hendonchessclub.com/blitz/ is, naturally, mainly for members of the club, but you can play for £5.00 as a guest and you'd be welcome.

Saturday 8th June - my usual Golders Green Rapidplay (there are the usual four sections, Open, Major Under 170, Minor Under 145, Amateur Under 120) - I have introduced an option to pay by PayPal when you register. Please take advantage of this option and never have to hunt me down to pay your entry fee again!  We are also running a bookstall at the event for the first time in years, and it's very successful, so get your bargain new books on the day, even if you don't play. Here is our web page - www.goldersgreenchess.blogspot.co.uk - and the Facebook page is also worth a 'like'.

Saturday 15th June - the very special 1st Kings Place Rapidplay (there are four sections to play in as above, £1000, £500 in the Open and £100, £50 in each of the other three sections, six rounds).

Here is a live list of entries so far.

This is a truly special venue, home of the Guardian and Observer, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and right next to King's Cross station and simple to get to. Please support this sponsored event if you can by playing, or just coming along to hear Julian Hodgson and Lawrence Trent doing commentary - and top boards broadcast live on the net, which is very unusual if not unique for a one-day event.  You can register your details and then buy a ticket to play here - http://www.kingsplace.co.uk/chess.  There are already ten Grandmasters and International Masters in the Open, so it should be great spectator sport.

As usual, both rapidplays require you to be an English Chess Federation Silver (or above) member.  You can find the link to join the ECF on the website.  You can also just enter and pay the £6.00 pay to play fee on the day if you are not a member.

PLUS at 2pm there is a very rare chance to play Grandmaster Julian Hodgson (who will be doing commentary) in a 30 board simultaneous display.  Julian won the British four times before becoming a full-time chess coach in schools and a popular commentator at events like the London Chess Classic.

29-30 June sees the monthly Hampstead weekend tournament for Under 2200 / 190 ECF, five rounds and normally about 40-50 entries in one section, with minimum £200, £100 and two £80 rating prizes. This is our Facebook page.  This month the event takes place on the same weekend as the great Hampstead Summer Festival - http://www.hampsteadsummerfestival.com/.  We close the road (Heath Street) on Sunday 30th June and have a large fair to raise money for Age Concern Camden. There will be an open air chess cafe on Heath Street and we will have a blitz tournament on the Sunday out on the street, and a giant chess set to play on, and hundreds of stalls.

Have fun, and see you at a chess tournament soon.

Best wishes

Here is a list of FIDE registered tournaments in England. There will be a separate entry for each section of each event (e.g. Golders Green Rapidplay = 4 sections, 4 registrations). If you see any of mine missing, do let me know!

Scroll down to the bottom to access the archive of events.

Only games where at least one of the players has a published standard FIDE rating will be rated, and included in the rating calculations of the unrated player. Where both players are rated, the game will affect both players and will be included in the calculations for both players.
