Chess England NEWS - Sunday 24th May 2020
Summary: Have you played chess during the week at the lovely Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill?
This Tuesday 26th May we are recreating the event online. It is half term so we expect a few good juniors to show up! Play starts at 10am and on each hour after that. There are three sections, Open, Major and Minor. If you are stronger than ECF 160 you should play in the Open. If you are Under ECF 120 you can play in the Minor. The Major is for good club players. The Major is for players 120 and up to about 160. In fact I will move players around the sections depending on the entries so that we get three good swiss tournaments if I need to! If you want to play in a higher section, I will respect that wish.
Zoom. Install it. We have been using free and simple Jitsi, but I might invest in Zoom (more features) and the upshot of that is if you don’t want to be on camera publicly for any reason, I can put you in a breakout room, but this is also something I could use for post-game analysis. I have a special analysis board!
Privacy and safeguarding are at the top of my agenda, along with anti-cheating measures. I am attending a conference on the subject on Tuesday evening (online) and will report my findings here,

Hampstead online, this was a great success this weekend with 30 players and we have arranged another date for 6-7 June (see below). Players love the fact that they can download the pgn file of all the games instantly, and look at them with their coaches!
Blitz Arenas. https://lichess.org/team/chess-england For the Lichess Blitz Arenas on Sundays we have introduced an entry fee and terms and conditions for prize winners PLUS a RATING PRIZE. This should make it more attractive to club players and less attractive to sharks… This weekend we had fewer entries, but that will build up - £5.00 for five Arenas of chess (about 30 games) isn’t too much to ask, I hope?
Chess England Blitz Date is back to the usual THURSDAY EVENING this week, 10 minutes each no increment.
